Edmonton’s construction industry continues to seek skilled workers, yet many women are labouring to make ends meet.

Women Building Futures gives women a chance to break into the trades, traditional male bastions. The project is a partnership between many organizations including Edmonton Community Foundation.

Training focuses on basic skills such as working with hand and power tools and a first-year carpentry apprenticeship curriculum. As well, women learn what to expect on the job site. Employers are eager to hire the graduates because they know the importance of detail, and they are conscientious, hard working and safety conscious.
