The Richard Eaton Singers (RES) were founded in 1951 by Richard S. Eaton, first Chair of the Department of Music at the University of Alberta. The ensemble has earned a reputation as one of Canada’s premier symphonic choirs, specializing in larger choral-orchestral works as well as significant unaccompanied repertoire. The RES continues to advocate for excellence in choral music.

The RES started an endowment fund with the Edmonton Community Foundation (ECF) in 2005. The same year, ECF granted $30,000 from the H. Jean McDiarmaid Fund for Musical Performance to support an RES concert commemorating the 250th anniversary of Mozart’s birth.
