Grants Associate

As the largest non-governmental funder of the charitable sector in our City, ECF is in a unique position to address long-term, complex community needs by working with donors, charities, volunteers, government and community partners.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Director, Grants & Community Engagement, the Grants Associate is part of a team responsible for the provision and administration of ECF grants and grant programs including Community Grants, Small Grants, Student Awards and Donor Directed Grants. As ECF provides and administers a wide variety of grants and granting programs, the Grants Associate has an equally wide variety of duties and functions.

Key Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Reviewing grant applications and providing support to applicants (individuals, organizations and/or charities) throughout the process.
  • Participating in grant committee meetings and making recommendations on progression of grants.
  • Preparing grant documentation and fulfilling reporting requirements.
  • Providing support to grant program volunteers and sub committees to ensure they are positioned to make informed and objective decisions around granting/funding proposals.
  • Engaging with various organizations and funding bodies to provide recommendations for responsive granting programs and processes, encouraging best practices, and to increasing awareness of ECF’s role in community.
  • Ensuring grants and grant programs adhere to the direction, reporting and other requirements established by the donor or funder.
  • Leveraging and optimizing use of technology to improve and enhance our granting processes.

The Ideal Candidate 

As the ideal candidate, you will have a related university degree combined with a minimum of 3-5 years directly related work experience in the provision and administration of grants, grant/funding programs or related areas; equivalent combinations of related post-secondary education and directly related work experience will be considered. Candidates who do not meet the educational and experience requirements may be considered at lower classification and salary. As the primary point of contact for grant related inquiries and communications, you are adept at cultivating and maintaining positive relationships with members of the community.

Additional requirements include:

  • Strong customer service skills combined with demonstrated stakeholder/ relationship management experience.
  • Superior ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Aptitude for technology with solid understanding and/or experience in the full use of databases and grant management systems (eg. data management, report generation).
  • Experience with Salesforce and/or Smart Simple is an asset.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • High degree of initiative and ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently with little supervision.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively and professionally present information and respond to questions from diverse individuals and/or groups with differing needs.
  • Experience in a non-profit or charitable environment is an asset.

What We Offer

  • Salary Range: $61,000-$80,000/year
  • A 35-hour standard work week.
  • Downtown work location with free parking available.

  • A hybrid work environment where employees have the opportunity to collaborate on site a minimum of 3 days per week with the flexibility to work remotely up to 2 days per week.
